New Year's Resolution Contest 2017

Yes, I know what you must be thinking, "Sona, why is the contest starting when the previous one only just started the voting phase?" Well, stop talking to yourself and listen up!
This isn't gonna be your typical contest! It'll be running year-long, and shall have no losers! While the general idea is New Year's resolutions, one can enter at any time. There are no rules, save that this one could technically be considered a writing contest. CYOAs, normal stories, you name it.
Basically, declare your resolutions here and try to keep them. I don't expect year-long participation, but so long as you never truly give up, no matter how you falter, you're the true winner!

My new year's resolution is to start or at least post some kind of one-shot or CYOA.
I've held back for so long, around two years, perhaps it's time I stop the planning and just go for it.

I don't really "do" resolutions, but I guess I can pitch my own penny into the hat on this. These are all things I've been trying to do anyway, so I can consider them part of this year's "resolutions".
I resolve to:
update my first story more than twice in the year;
tie up the current story arc for my second story (or get very close);
write at least one porn piece that I actually post on the site;
and actively read and vote more often on the stories I follow.

I'm going to continue my dumb porn story from last year's contest sometime this year. I don't really have a good reason for not doing it when I've had ideas for it for months.
Maybe saying it here will help beat the laziness.

I'm working on an /at/ compilation due before the 21st this month. Along with that, triple my posts for the story I want to continue.
And then...I'm scratching some shorts on the side because work has me floating other places. Why do I do this to myself?

I hate your contests. All my favorite stories now update slower because the author is participating in a contest. Just throwing that out there.

I'm glad! After the February contest ends, I'll know for sure if I will be starting more or not. As for it giving you an excuse to write, that's my exact intent by making these contests. Makes me happy to hear my goal is being accomplished.
>>14592
Well, assuming participating is why they are slowing. The previous one did only have five entries other than myself. Of those entries, up to three stories are possible to have been affected. I'm saying three because I know one of the authors and another was a newbie.
However, I do apologize for that. Mind you, this is part of why I gave such a long window to enter this time. Longer window, more time to work,
easier to pace one's self longer to wait before everyone crams it in in the final seconds.
Although, I find it odd you don't enjoy those stories they wrote/won't enjoy the stories they will write, what with them being by authors you love.

It can be, yeah. How I used to do it before coming here was to have a nightly objective. Mine was 500 words per night, but any amount can work. In the end, if you have an easy objective, writing many thousand words becomes less daunting, and becomes a nightly ritual. Turning it into a ritual is a good thing in my eyes.

Well, I more or less do that already. It's more the problem of getting a significant amount of words out before my attention span gets the better of me; I've been alternating two stories every day, getting out a couple hundred words in the thirty minutes each day.
Having deeply ingrained problems from a poorly-planned plot doesn't help either.

Oh, and I guess I should add that my writing process involves writing the update, writing it again, and
then editing it. It sounds ass-backwards, but it's about all that works for me because I change my mind five-hundred times before I'm done with a single draft. But it does add time to the overall process, which is frustrating at times.

It is basically Spring Break meets Monster hunter with Cloud, Tidus, the lovechild of Snow and Auron and a genderswapped Quistis starring as the Backstreet Boys.
It has a few bugs and the final part sucks but it is worth playing.

>Out of curiosity, what's it about?
Kinda hard to summarise, but here's my best attempt:
Koyomi is a wolf tengu who earned herself a name at academy for having a cast iron stomach. After graduating, she got stuck in a crappy remote post before getting a sudden transfer out to Amaden, an amazingly skeevy outpost where all types in Gensokyo come together. This time, she's stuck acting as a lowly (non-Guard-affiliated) patrolwoman and hating every moment of it. Complicating her life is her sudden involvement with Kokoro, who claims to be street performer but is obviously harbouring all sorts of secrets. What follows is the story of two frenemies who tackle various issues, criminal or political, facing Amaden, and cause major headaches for everybody else along the way.

Well, since this is the very end of the year, I guess I might as well step forward to tie this challenge up. This has been one surreal and busy year, and I doubt I'm the only one that has had drastically shifting priorities from one month to the next. Hard to say if it was a good year or a bad year. It was just... a year.
Anyway, resolutions.
>update my first story more than twice in the year
This is one of the more unfortunate pieces of my four-part resolution, because I had every intention of fulfilling it. However, when I escaped from Japan (long story, don't ask), I came to realise just how fucked my story setup was and decided it was best for everybody if I just dragged it out back and quickly put it out of its misery. Three years with barely any progress was a pretty good sign that was needed anyway.
>tie up the current story arc for my second story (or get very close)
This is another part I couldn't live up to. I highly overestimated my ability to resolve anything quickly in a story I'm writing. Even when there's a direction -- and I assure you there is one -- I don't do fast-paced. Various timing inconveniences and nearly losing my editor on a couple of occasions had a way of keeping updates unfinished far longer than I'd want. Such is life.
>write at least one porn piece that I actually post on the site
Now, this one, I managed a couple of times over with Soap Street and my seasonal Okina short. I never believed it'd happen, but I suppose that's the power of 2017. I have no intention of stopping now, so my Nemuno story will continue its (relatively) short run into 2018.
>actively read and vote more often on the stories I follow
This goal was a bit of a dud since it's so vague and unbounded. I did do more reading and voting than before, but there were long stretches where I pulled away from everything, mostly to try and hurry up on updates. Would I call it a success? Enh. (Imagine my hand wiggling here.)
Also, I think it's safe to say that I'm done with contests for the duration. My single victory was enough to satisfy me after three tries, and I'm distracted enough as it is. Hopefully, we'll still keep having interesting ones, though.
